What to do this Father's Day...

August 6, 2017

As a general rule, it's pretty challenging to buy for the men in your life without going the classic socks or bottle of wine.

Well this Father's Day, we are going to fix that once and for all with gift ideas and activities in and around Melbourne to treat your Dad or baby Daddy!

First things first, let's get that gift sorted...

Gift Idea #1 - Shoe Care Sets by Tangent GC

The perfect gift for any grown up really but an extra thoughtful one for Father's Day.

Swedish brand Tangent GC are outstanding at great packaging and design but also at packing their beautiful packaging with exceptional ingredients that are ethically and sustainably sourced. Available in large ($149) and small ($79).

Gift Idea #2 - Malin & Goetz Tobacco Candle

Probably my favourite smelling candle of all time! Available at Mecca, it's inspired by the old-fashioned botanical and medical origin of the tobacco plant, reminiscent of well-worn leather and battered books. Buy it here.

Gift Idea #3 - Monocle magazine subscription

Hands down my favourite magazine. Filled to the brim with a great variety of articles. A great gift idea that keeps on giving with a selection of 6 month and 1 year subscriptions.

So now we have the gifts out of the way, let's talk about what to do this Father's Day in and around Melbourne.

Activity #1 - Father's Day Sweet Set at Grub Food Van

A Dads version of high tea? Hell yes!

What you get: 4 savoury canapés from the Grub kitchen, 4 sweet creations from Boris Portnoy, ex-3- Michelin Star pastry chef, of new kid on the block, All are Welcome plus accompanying matches from STARWARD whiskey and Hop Nation Brewing Company.

Tickets available here.

Activity #2 - Watch a 70mm film at the Sun Theatre, Yarraville.

Explore the beautiful village of Yarraville and watch either Dunkirk or a remastered Lawrence of Arabia in the beautifully restored Sun Theatre on 70mm.

Watch either movie the way the director wanted you to watch it and enjoy stepping back in time and enjoying the comfy seats!

Before or after the movie, head around the corner to Barkley Johnson Deli & Wine store for a delicious cheese board and enjoy a fabulous selection of wine.

Activity #3 - Day trip to Aireys Inlet for lunch at Á la Grecque

Not in Greece enjoying a European summer? Á la Greque is the next best thing... well definitely for the food, maybe not the hot weather this time of year! ha!

A beautiful, family run business that is an institution along the Great Ocean Road.

Wind your way around the coastline and stop off at some cellar doors on your way.

Activity #4 - Share a meal at Marquis of Lorne
Enjoy the open fire upstairs at my favourite pub in Fitzroy. The food is exceptional, my recommendations are the potato cakes and the Rockling Burger.

It has a lovely ambiance and is a great backdrop to hand over that gift to Dad.

Once you've finished your meal, head across the road to check out the Centre for Contemporary Photography and view the current exhibition. It's a great not-for-profit exhibition and resource centre supporting photo based arts.

So there you have it - my top tips for a special Father's Day.

Wishing all the Dads out there a wonderful day.

Love Miss Glass Home x
